Distinguished archaeologist speaks on archaeological materials and pre-imperial China
HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature invited Professor Lothar von Falkenhausen, Professor of Department of Art History of University of California, Los Angeles to speak at the Lecture Series by Distinguished Scholars of Sinology in celebration of the 100th birthday of Professor Jao Tsung-i last week.
The lecture entitled “Archaeological Perspectives on the Socio-Economic Development of Pre-Imperial China” attracted a large audience which included staff, students and the public.
Professor von Falkenhausen is a leading scholar in research on Chinese Bronze Age archaeology who focuses on large interdisciplinary and historical issues on which archaeological materials can provide significant new information. He is directing excavations at ancient salt-production sites in the Yangzi River Basin and has made remarkable contributions to Sino-American collaboration in archaeology.
